KOTA KINABALU, Sept 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Sabah today to assess the disaster situation and meet residents affected by landslides and floods in several locations in the Penampang and Kota Kinabalu districts.

The visit will begin at 2.15 pm with an inspection of the landslide site at the Block 20 parking lot, Country Heights, Penampang.

Anwar is scheduled to visit the Kolopis relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan St Paul Kolopis, Penampang, at 3 pm to check on the condition of the victims and ensure their needs are taken care of.

The Prime Minister will then proceed to the Kampung Sarapung PPS, Penampang, at 3.40 pm to meet disaster victims and hear their concerns.

At 4.30 pm, he is expected to visit the landslide site at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Gaya Campus, Kota Kinabalu, before departing for Kuala Lumpur in the evening.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported that, as of yesterday evening, 3,325 people from 964 families had been evacuated to 27 PPS in Membakut, Penampang, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang, and to a permanent relief centre in Beaufort.

Landslides in Sabah have claimed 13 lives, with one fatality reported from floods.

On Monday, Anwar approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to assist flood victims in the state.

The Prime Minister said the amount was in addition to the RM11 million channelled through the state government for urgent repairs of basic facilities in the affected areas.
