PUCHONG: The Minister of Human Resources YB Datuk Seri M. Saravanan launched the Penjana HRDF initiatives at the Ministry of Human Resources yesterday.
“The job opportunities will be opened up in stages within six months from now,” said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
Ten companies in collaboration with HRDF announced the availability of 20,000 jobs for Malaysians to be rolled out in phases in the next month. Today’s launch met half the target that HRDF had set for itself of sourcing for and providing for 40,000 jobs.
Today’s launch was testament of the Minister’s commitment to fulfil the challenge set by the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the Human Resources Ministry that Malaysians facing job loss must be quickly placed back into employment.
The short-term stimulus package called PENJANA was announced by the Prime Minister to alleviate some of the challenges faced by Malaysians facing unemployment.
Two Billion Ringgit Malaysia was allocated to address issues of unemployment and training to various government agencies.
RM250 million was allocated to HRDF and this was matched by a matching grant of RM250 million by HRDF. Today’s 20,000 job offerings is part of Penjana HRDF’s Place and Train initiative. In total FIVE initiatives were launched.
i.Place & Train Programme: An initiative to source for and provide employment for Malaysians especially Graduates, School Leavers and Retrenched Workers by participating in relevant value-added training courses required by selected industries.
ii. Upskilling & Reskilling Programme : This initiative will provide a platform to up-skill through high value added training in relevant courses related to fast growing industries. The schemes under this initiative will help Malaysians not only in enhancing their career development, but also in boosting their productivity and business growth.
iii. SME Development Programme : An initiative to support SMEs in increasing their productivity and cost effectiveness so that they remain competitive and sustainable in the market through strategic and operational training courses. The training courses will be identified through strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders which will address critical needs post MCO.
iv. B40 Development Programme : An initiative that aims to assist the community in general and workers within B40 households with specific skills and knowledge through end-to-end training to up-skill, gain entrepreneurship skills and increase income in various industries such as Agriculture, Food Production, Home Business, and e- Commerce.
v. Gerak Insan Gemilang (GIG) Programme : An initiative that aims to assist Malaysians with specific skills and knowledge through end-to-end training to up-skill themselves that will enable them to increase their income from various means by becoming freelancers.
The five initiatives are part of measures aimed at generating job opportunities and promoting employment, which are intended to protect the livelihood of Malaysians.
In addition to hiring incentives and expanded wage subsidies, reskilling and training are equally crucial in ensuring workers maintain or upgrade their skills in preparation for when the economy recovers.
After today’s announcement of 20,000 jobs, it is expected that the target of 40,000 by HRDF should be met by December of 2020.
