The prime minister has on numerous occasions said that he is willing to hand over the seat to the prime minister in-waiting, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council wishes so. Really?
Come on Pakatan, let’s just cut the crap. This ding-dong on when Dr Mahathir Mohamad should step down as premier is nothing short of a Bollywood drama going horribly awry that the public is getting bored and sick.
The feel on the ground is that on one hand the Pakatan presidential council is not confident of Anwar taking over the chair and on the other they are afraid that there could be repercussions in asking the nonagenarian to leave Putrajaya.
The is no indication whatsoever at the moment that there is sincerity on the part of the Pakatan presidential council in ensuring the baton is indeed passed on to Anwar anytime soon.
The leaders or ”so-called” leaders in Pakatan are nothing short of running around trees and bushes like in some classic Indian movies in trying to pacify the people whenever the issue of handover crops up.
One cannot be blamed to speculate that Mahathir is making the entire Pakatan presidential council members looking like confused numpties who have no idea what their stand is on the issue of the power transition.
He has literally made public that he is still holding on to the premiership solely because the Pakatan leaders have not decided on his position. Now that the ball is in the court of the presidential council, what is shackling them from making a definitive decision?
There are already loud and ferocious voices from within the government coalition for Mahathir to step down, and yet we have Cabinet ministers who try to veil the eye and ears of the public.
Before the last general election, these very same people were so gung-ho in making promises after promises to the public. And today, we the public, are being told not to ask too many a times about the transition.
Hello Pakatan, we are the public and it is our right to know who will lead the country until the next general election. It is shameful that the very same people that gave you the powers are today being told not to make a din about when Mahathir will step down.
It is not only morally wrong but utterly disgusting that today the voices of the public are beginning to look like rabble for these so-called decision makers and leaders!
The Pakatan presidential council must take onus and make a decision on Mahathir’s position once and for all and not play a game of roulette with the public. Its indecisiveness speaks volumes of its weakness and amateurish nature in handling a critical and crucial issue.
There are only two ways out of this for the Pakatan presidential council and it is a no-brainer.
Either they retain Mahathir as the prime minister until the next general election or announce a definitive date for the handover.
There are no grey areas here. Anything else is nothing but crap!
