MALACCA: Five men and a woman, believed to be “Olan” gang members were arrested by the police in connection with several armed-robbery and house break-in cases reported in Malacca and Johor over the past six months.
Malacca Criminal Investigation Department ACP Mohd Nor Yhazid Idris said the suspects, who are all locals and aged between 19 and 31, were arrested at separate locations in the Malacca city yesterday.
One of the suspects is believed to be the gang leader, known as Olan, he added.
He said the arrest was made after the Malacca police formed a special team following an armed-robbery case at a boutique in Taman Kota Fesyen, Malacca International Trade Centre last Jan 19, involving losses of more than RM7,000.
“The team saw a suspicious looking dark-coloured Proton Waja car in Cheng at about 12.30am yesterday and chased it. However, the suspects fled, leaving the car at Taman Seri Krubong, following which, police conducted several raids in the city that led to the arrest of six of them,” he told a media conference here today.
Mohd Nor Yhazid said with the arrest of the suspects, police also seized two fake pistols and house-breaking tools.
The suspects comprised unemployed, labourers and self-employed, with all of them having previous records for drug-related offences, he added.
He said the police were looking for the remaining four members of the gang. — Bernama
