KUALA LUMPUR: Former tourism minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAS) should consider changing its name in a bid to revive the ailing national carrier.
Speaking at the Parliament lobby today, Nazri described MAS’ situation as hitting rock bottom and its image was marred with tragedies.
Nazri was referring to the disappearance of flight MH370 and the downing of flight MH17 as the tragedies that has bogged down MAS.
“Change the name to Air Malaysia, Malaysia Airways or something – because MAS is synonymous with negativity.
“People kept the name because of goodwill. But one plane goes missing and the other got shot down, just change the name,” said the Padang Rengas MP.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that there were four offers from companies interested in taking over MAS[1] but the government has yet to make a decision.
He also assured that there would be no job cuts if there is a take over involved.
