KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial has been postponed for the second time as he has once again contracted conjunctivitis.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court was told of this matter by lead defence counsel, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who was notified this morning.
“I had a call this morning about 7.15am from my client and his wife, because they couldn’t get me earlier.
“Conjunctivitis has revisited him. I think this was because of yesterday’s outing, and the haze didn’t help,” he said.
To this, judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah asked whether it was possible to replace the trials on two Fridays.
Shafee requested for the next hearing to be held on Tuesday, 17 Sept since Monday is Malaysia Day. He also highlighted that he was involved in the Cradle Fund CEO murder trial on Fridays in Shah Alam.
Lead prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram too said that he was tied up with other cases too.
The first time Najib’s trial was postponed due to conjunctivitis was on 14 Aug during the SRC International trial. Najib had medical leave for three days at that time.
The current trial is over 21 money laundering charges and four power abuse charges for receiving RM2.28 billion from 1MDB through Tanore Financial Corp that is owned by fugitive businessman Jho Low’s associate, Eric Tan.
