Najib to Pakatan: People are sick of your empty promises, Tg Piai says it all

PUCHONG: Elated by the Tanjung Piai by-election win, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak took the opportunity to send a strong message to the Pakatan Harapan government.

“Enough of your empty talks and hollow promises. Stop your lies and slander. Keep your focus on the issue at hand.

“There is a crisis in Malaysia and the people need help. Stop making life difficult for them,” he said, in a statement.

Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng trounced Pakatan Harapan’s Karmaine Sardini with a huge majority to win the Tanjung Piai by-election.

He garnered 25,466 votes, as opposed to Pakatan’s Karmaine who secured 10,380 votes.

Touching on the by-election, Najib said it was tough campaigning in Tanjung Piai as the BN was up against a well-heeled Pakatan electoral machinery.

He also said that the government had pumped in about RM30 million for their campaigning, while BN was only armed with a microphone, speeches and their warm relations with the locals there.

“The federal ministers even campaigned during the polling day. Whether this was legal or not, only the Elections Commission and Bersih can answer that question.

“Despite the unfair treatment received, we did not succumb to pressure but left the matter to the will of the people,” he said.

Basking on the victory, Najib thanked the voters of Tanjung Piai for electing Wee and urged the MCA leader to fulfil the people’s aspirations.

“This is also a sign that the people trust MCA, BN and the Umno-PAS unity pact. It was truly the people’s win,” said the Pekan MP.
