Najib ‘lauds’ Guan Eng for shooting up national debt to over RM800 bln

PUCHONG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak trolled Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng for increasing the government debt after taking up another loan worth RM2.7 billion loan today.

In a Facebook post today, Najib said the new loan was taken up by the ministry just after it took another loan worth RM4 billion last week.

“The RM2.7 billion will be only be fully paid by May 22, 2040 while the RM4 billion loan is due by May 2023.

“According to my calculation, the new government debt for this year alone amounts to RM67.5 billion.

“This new loan amount is RM15.6 billion more than the RM51.9 billion approved in Budget 2019,” he said.

The Pekan MP said with the new loans, the national debt has increased to a whopping RM809 billion.

“The Pakatan Harapan government has only one month left before the end of 2019 to settle the RM15.6 billion debt.

“If not, the Budget 2019 deficit will increase and our credit ratings will be downgraded,” he said.
