KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, 58, resigned today as the executive chairman of Opcom Holdings Bhd due to personal reason, he said in an exchange filing which also stated his retirement tomorrow.
Mokhzani, who is the second son of the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was appointed to Opcom’s board ten years ago.
Opcom was in the news last year as it gained the project to renew fibre optics last year, shortly after Mokhzani’s father, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad led the Pakatan Harapan coalition to victory in the 14th general election.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir a major shareholder in Opcom and the brother of Mokhzani reduced his stake to 21.685% by disposing 2.57 million shares from the fibre optic cable cable company.
Mukhriz is also presently Menteri Besar of Kedah and deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Shares in Opcom closed one sen or 1.67% lower today at 59 sen. At its current price, Opcom is valued at RM95.14 million.
