KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — Nearly 200,000 Malaysians who own diesel pickup trucks and 4WD vehicles have been approved for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel per month under the BUDI Madani Diesel programme, raising their monthly eligibility to 300 litres starting July.

The Ministry of Finance said in a statement that the approvals include more than 174,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia and over 22,000 in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

Deputy Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the additional allocation reflects the government’s understanding of higher diesel usage among pickup and 4WD owners.

“The government understands that for owners of diesel pickup trucks and 4WD vehicles, these vehicles are not only used for daily travel but also for earning a living and managing family needs,” he said.

The ministry said recipients who use diesel vehicles owned by close family members may apply to transfer eligibility through the BUDI Madani portal, subject to verification.

It said users may also update vehicle ownership records with JPJ, which has waived transfer fees for diesel vehicles for three months beginning 1 July.

The ministry said the improvements show that BUDI Diesel will continue to be monitored and adjusted based on public feedback to ensure subsidies reach eligible recipients without creating opportunities for leakage or smuggling.

More than 2,000 applications to transfer BUDI Diesel eligibility have been received through the portal as of 4 July.

The ministry said BUDI Diesel uses MyKad verification to ensure subsidies are channelled only to eligible Malaysians, while non‑citizens and ineligible parties must purchase diesel at unsubsidised prices.

Since early access began on 27 June, more than 336,000 subsidised diesel transactions have been recorded involving 12.6 million litres, with over RM23 million in subsidies borne by the government.

The ministry said targeted subsidies are essential to safeguard subsidised diesel supply and prevent misuse by ineligible parties.

It said the government will continue monitoring BUDI Diesel and reviewing public and industry feedback to ensure subsidised diesel remains secure and leakage is curbed.
