KUALA LUMPUR: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake was detected off the island of Luzon in the Philippines at 4.17 am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement here said its epicentre was 249km southeast of Kaohsiung, Taiwan and occurred at a depth of 10km.
There is no tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added.
