KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, rattled Seram, Indonesia, at 8.40am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The epicentre of the quake was about 36 kilometres (km) east of Ambon, Indonesia, at a depth of 43 km.
However, the quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement said.
