SEPANG, May 24 — Malaysia Airlines today received a new Boeing 737-8 aircraft, marking the 200th Boeing aircraft delivered to the national carrier since 1972.

The aircraft, bearing registration number 9M-MVR, is also the fourth Boeing 737-8 delivered to the airline this year.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) president and group chief executive officer Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the delivery marked a milestone in the airline’s long-standing relationship with Boeing.

“This delivery holds special significance as it marks the 200th Boeing aircraft to join the Malaysia Airlines fleet since 1972.

“More than just an addition to our fleet, this milestone reflects a long-standing operational history that has supported our capacity growth and fleet evolution over the decades as we continue our deep-seated mission to connecting Malaysia to the world,” he said in a statement

Nasaruddin said the new-generation aircraft would support the airline’s future growth plans and evolving operational needs.

“The introduction of these next-generation aircraft will further strengthen our ability to support future growth opportunities and evolving market needs, while continuing to deliver a more modern and comfortable travel experience for our customers,” he said.

The aircraft departed Boeing’s Seattle Delivery Centre on May 21 and made refuelling stops in Honolulu and Guam before arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here.

Operated as flight MH5045, the aircraft landed at KLIA at 1.30pm after a total flight time of 19 hours and 44 minutes.

The flight was operated by Captain Arian Syazwara Adenan, Captain Mohd Aidilputra Abd Razak and First Officer Ahmad Asnawi Ahmad Rahman.

MAG said the Boeing 737-8 aircraft forms part of its ongoing fleet modernisation programme aimed at improving operational efficiency and network connectivity.

To date, MAG has received 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft from its total order of 55 Boeing narrowbody aircraft.

The order comprises 43 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and 12 Boeing 737-10 aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2030.
