Malaysia Airlines, Firefly offer RM499 festive fares to East Malaysia, add 62 extra flights

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), through Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, is supporting increased travel demand ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha, Kaamatan and Gawai celebrations with subsidised fares on selected East Malaysia routes.

In a statement today, MAG said Malaysia Airlines will operate an additional 62 flights across high-demand routes including Kota Bharu, Labuan, Tawau, Sandakan, Kuching, Sibu and Miri to accommodate the festive travel surge.

The group said both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will support the government’s festive travel initiative by capping base fares at RM499 one-way on selected East Malaysia routes.

The fares are available for purchase from now until May 31, 2026.

Travellers can enjoy the special fares for travel between May 26 and 29 on Malaysia Airlines flights to Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Sandakan and Tawau, as well as selected Firefly flights including Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.

For Sarawak-bound flights, the fares apply for travel between May 28 and 31 to Kuching, Miri and Sibu via Malaysia Airlines, as well as selected Firefly routes including Kuching.

MAG said travellers flying with Malaysia Airlines and Firefly can expect complimentary checked baggage, in-flight refreshments and flexible flight change options across selected fare tiers.

Firefly also operates flights from both Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

Passengers connecting on Malaysia Airlines can also enjoy through-checked baggage and complimentary meals for a smoother end-to-end travel experience.

MAG said Malaysia Airlines’ Flex fare includes unlimited booking changes and refund options, subject to applicable fees and fare differences, alongside a 35kg checked baggage allowance, standard seat selection, eligibility for upgrades with Enrich Points, 25 per cent off child fares and complimentary same-day flight changes.

Meanwhile, Firefly’s Flex fare offers unlimited flight changes with fare difference applicable, 30kg checked baggage allowance, complimentary hot meals, seat selection and priority boarding.

MAG said it remains committed to connecting communities across the country during the festive period while supporting efforts to make air travel more accessible, particularly during major cultural celebrations when many Malaysians return home to reunite with loved ones.

The group said the initiative is supported by improvements in operational performance and ground processes aimed at ensuring smoother travel throughout the festive season.
