‘Lots of noise, then silence’: PAS’ Sanusi questions DAP’s Anthony Loke’s resignation offer over Najib house arrest

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor today described the DAP’s decision to have only its secretary-general Anthony Loke offer to resign from the Cabinet over former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conditional pardon as “firecracker politics”.

Loke offered to resign as Transport Minister yesterday after a three-hour DAP central executive committee meeting, while the party decided its other ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the unity government to maintain political stability.

“Nga said the same thing before. He didn’t resign either. They act as if they’re going to take action, but nothing gets done. It’s firecracker politics. Lots of noise, then silence,” news portal Free Malaysia Today quoted Sanusi as saying.

Sanusi, Kedah menteri besar, was referring to DAP deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming, who had previously said he would resign over Najib’s release but did not ultimately leave the Cabinet.

He also accused DAP of repeatedly changing its position after announcing plans to take stronger action over Najib’s conditional pardon.

“DAP plays flip-flop politics. Next, they’ll find an excuse not to resign. Before this, they said they wanted to leave the government. Then they found an excuse not to,” he was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Loke said that the DAP respected the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s constitutional authority to grant pardons but felt the conditional pardon was difficult for Malaysians to accept.

He said his resignation offer was the party’s response to the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine.

Najib was granted the conditional pardon last Friday, with the decision allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest while DAP said it would continue supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government.
