Lazada Malaysia to ‘Reinvent eCommerce’ in its conference

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia kick-started its annual seller conference this year called WECOMMERCE 2019 with the theme ‘Reinventing eCommerce’.

The event is set to bring together sellers and entrepreneurs from around the region for business matching opportunities and discover new retail concepts to keep up with consumer demands.

“We’ve brought manufacturers and suppliers from China, Australia, and Japan for our local sellers to connect directly, providing them business matching opportunities to upskill themselves so they can create their own brands around this ecosystem,” said Lazada Malaysia chief business officer Kevin Lee at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.

Since Lazada’s last seller conference in September 2018, the eCommerce platform saw a 97% growth in new sellers, with the highest growth coming from Kelantan, Labuan, and Kedah.

Over the past one year, the eCommerce platform has provided 132 face to face training sessions, to over 7,000 local sellers.

Commenting on the matter, Lee said that Lazada’s Facebook group page has expanded into its own local eCommerce space, becoming a self-sufficient platform for sellers to share experiences and knowledge.

He added that one of their biggest strength in mobile technology is the ability to constantly monitor and analyse data.

“We have an app for all our business sellers on our portal called business adviser; where sellers can see how they’re doing, which product is getting views, which product needs improvement on pricing or stock, and more,” said Lee.

Lazada Malaysia entered a partnership with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (MDTCA) in August.

The deal paved the way for new trade activities and training programmes; to increase the adoption of eCommerce amongst local SMEs and support the government’s “Buy Malaysian” campaign.

More than 2,000 people attended the event today, with over 100 Lazada partners and renowned industry experts sharing their views.
