PUCHONG: A total of 30 residents from Taman Restu Apartments here claimed to have lost RM120,000 after a female lawyer, who offered services for the transfer of strata ownership, allegedly cheated them.
Resident Ho Pui Fuang, 70, said he was aware of the services offered by the lawyer through a bunting placed in the residential area in 2018.
“Being too old and no transport to do the needful for the strata transfer led me to use the services offered by the lawyer. I have given RM3,000 to the lawyer to handle the matter,” he said when met at a press conference at the Kajang state assemblyman’s office here yesterday.
Ho said the lawyer had promised the residents that she would be able to settle the strata title deal within four months.
“After sometime, I contacted the lawyer but she gave me various excuses and I felt cheated. So far, I have not been able to own the strata as promised by the lawyer,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kajang state assemblyman Hee Loy Sian said the matter was brought to his attention after the victims claimed to have made payments between RM1,800 and RM3,800 to the lawyer through the law firm’s account.
“I was informed that the money was for legal fees and other costs such as stamp duty. It is understood that they failed to contact the lawyer since early last month.
“Therefore, I give the lawyer one month to resolve the issue or face legal action,” he said.
Hee also called on other residents who have been cheated by the lawyer to come forward and lodge a police report.
“All victims must also lodge a complaint with the Bar Council disciplinary board for further action,” said the PKR leader.
