Ladang Bangi temple: MPKj and police break open lock blocking access road

BANGI: The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and the police finally broke open the lock that was blocking the access road to the Sri Maha Karumariamman Temple in Ladang Bangi yesterday.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia central committee member S Arutchelvan said the operation was done before 5pm yesterday, just an hour before the ex-estate workers said they will break open the lock themselves.

“Dozens of MPKj officers and police officers came to break open the lock after a 10 days lockout by developer Trans Loyal Development,” he said.

On Thursday, Arutchelvan criticised the MPKj for not taking action against the developer for sealing off the access road to the Hindu temple.

The developer was earlier said to have promised not to close the access road pending the completion of an alternative road.

However, the developer reneged on its promise and filled the tunnel needed to access the temple road with sand and stones and erected hoardings. The developer also locked the access to the road.

Arutchelvan said that despite many attempts by the MPKj, police and lawyers to persuade the developer to unlock the gate to the access road, the calls fell on deaf ears.

“Even the Selangor state exco office and Deputy Minister Ong Kian Ming tried to talk to the developer yet the latter simply ignored them,” he said.

Arutchelvan then urged MPKj and the Selangor state government to take action against the developer for going against the letter of the law.

“The local council should also ensure that when the temple land is gazetted, there must be an access road. In this case, it seems that in spite of having an access road, the developer refused to open the road claiming it is in his land,” said the PSM leader.

The ex-estate workers had since lodged a police report on the matter at the Kajang district police headquarters.
