KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Immigration Department has not authorised a voluntary squad set up by the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) to hunt down foreign tourists for overstaying in Malaysia.
Its director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the task was the duty of the authorities based on the law and regulations.
“There’s no party or organisation that was authorised under the law to hunt for illegal immigrants. Under Section 51 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, the authority to arrest was given to immigration, police and customs officials,” he said in a statement today.
According to Khairul Dzaimee, the department consistently and continuously conducted operations to eradicate illegal immigrants, including tourists who overstayed in this country.
“Between Jan 1 and Dec 24,17,328 operations were conducted, resulting in 50,715 illegal immigrants and 1,251 employers nabbed,” he said.
According to him, every illegal immigrant arrested would undergo a process of investigation, prosecution and punishment before being deported.
He also urged the public to assist the Immigration Department in channeling relevant and accurate information on illegal immigrant activities so that enforcement could be taken, however, they were reminded not to take action on their own.
Khairul Dzaimee was referring to the statement on the establishment of volunteers by Putra made today to hunt down foreign tourists for overstaying in the country.
