KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — A man sustained injuries to his arms and legs after being attacked with a machete by an unknown assailant while waiting for his brother at the Paya Nahu flats in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the victim, in his 30s, had gone to his brother’s home at Block A5 of the flats at 3pm, according to a report published in Harian Metro.
On arrival, his sister-in-law informed him that his brother was not at home.
“The victim then went downstairs to wait for his brother, when suddenly a man in his 20s approached and slashed him.
“Investigations revealed that the victim did not know the suspect. Witnesses said the suspect had been intoxicated since early morning,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Hanyan said officers at the Kuala Muda district police control centre received a report at 3.55pm from a member of the public about a fight under the flats.
The victim is currently receiving treatment in the Red Zone of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
“Further investigations will follow after a remand application for the suspect is made tomorrow.
“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” he said.
