BATU PAHAT: The Johor state government is holding a special meeting to discuss the ‘fate’ of the people in the state who commute to Singapore, to work following the nationwide movement control order to be enforced in Malaysia beginning tomorrow, to curb the spread of COVID-19.
State Investment, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Izhar Ahmad said, the meeting to be held today or tomorrow, would involve the relevant agencies.
“We will also liaise with the federal government on the matter and any decision made will be announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad, who will also announce measures to curb the spread of the disease in Johor,” he said, when contacted by Bernama here today.
It is understood that there are about 400,000 people in Johor who commute daily to work in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Johor Immigration director Baharudin Tahir, when contacted by Bernama, said the movement control order would also apply, to the people in Johor who commute daily to work in Singapore.
“The Malaysian Immigration Department will detail out the order today. Once done, we will issue a directive or circular,” he added.
