KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador warned leaders and politicians to stop stirring up racial and religious issues which could threaten harmony.

He said that as the top enforcement agency in the country, the police was responsible to maintain law and order in the country, as well as curbing terrorists and those playing up sensitive issues.

“I appeal to all leaders and politicians to better understand the country’s dynamics and use our diversity to develop the nation.

“Use your wisdom, be patient and exercise prudence by adhering to the principles of democracy without engaging in activities that could offend others, and challenging the authorities,” he said, during a special press conference on the PDRM’s achievements and year 2020 plans at Bukit Aman.

Hamid added that leaders who play up sensitive issues are burdening the police force as the latter have to spend resources and time to resolve the matter.

“The police should be busy dealing with crimes and drug cases, not wasting time on some trivial matters,” he said, adding that the police would take stern action to maintain law and order.
