KUALA LUMPUR: A leader of a political party is behind the dissemination of the viral sex video aimed at bringing down Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador said the political leader had spent hundreds of thousands of ringgit to tarnish the minister’s standing among the people.

However, Hamid did not name the political leader in his statement.

“The result of police investigations revealed that there is a notorious pact led by the leader of a political party, aimed at embarrassing and tarnishing the reputation of a certain individual.

“The videos were spread with the intention to make people angry, was produced by a party, who was paid hundreds of thousands of ringgit,” Hamid said.

Yesterday, Hamid said that CyberSecurity Malaysia had declared the sex video was authentic. However, they could not verify the identity of the duo featured in the video.

To date, the police have arrested eight people in connection with the case, including former Santubong PKR youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Haziz and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Investigation are being carried out under Section 377B, Section 292 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
