KUALA LUMPUR: About 40 agriculture and technology based companies participated at the Global Agritech Summit (GATES) 2019 today, held at Bank Rakyat Convention Centre, to help boost the agriculture industry in Malaysia.

The two days event, organised by MyEvents International, includes conference, awards and business matching opportunities.

The event was officiated by Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok.

MyEvents International founder and president Shahul Hameed Dawood, chief executive officer Azman Fahmi Osman and Agro Bank covering president/chief executive officer Khadijah Iskandar were also present at the event.

Speaking after officiating the event, Kok said the exhibition would help facilitate the private sector to work with the government, to improve the nation’s agriculture industry.

“While these are challenging times for the agriculture industry, there are also opportunities available,” she said.

Commenting on the matter, Khadijah said the event will help raise awareness among smallholders and big players in the agricultural industry on how new technologies can help in the sector.

“By taking part, we are also raising awareness on how the banks can help in building up their portfolio,” she said.

Red Tone Group chief executive officer Lau Bik Soon said the event would help promote their new smart farming infrastructure in the agriculture industry.

“The small and big players in the agriculture industry will be benefited in terms of cost effectiveness if they use our smart farming infrastructure,” he said.
