PUCHONG: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be removed from office as he is back to his old dictatorial ways, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Movement.
In a statement, the movement’s chairman Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor also said that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamid and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should be ashamed of themselves for dancing to Mahathir’s tune despite knowing the latter’s motives.
“The recent happenings in the country show that Mahathir is playing dirty politics, just like in his old days, to remain in power at any cost.
“Make no mistake about it. Mahathir is back to his old Machiavellian ways,” he said.
Recently, Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam lashed out at Zahid for allegedly trying to form a pact with Mahathir.
He referred to a report by a Singapore daily, which made the expose using an audio clip, revealing Zahid talking to several Umno leaders about the proposed pact.
However, several top Umno leaders have come out to defend Zahid, saying Lokman should not have made public party discussions made behind closed doors.
Ezam, a former Umno senator, said that opposition leaders should not fall for Mahathir’s sweet talk as the latter was only looking out for his skin.
“However, Hadi is supporting Mahathir to stay relevant in politics. Don’t forget how the PAS leader is intelligently supporting the kleptocratic former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Mahathir at the same time.
“Hadi’s name will forever be entrenched in our history books as the most reviled PAS president of all times. He will never be in the same league of former PAS president, the late Datuk Fadzil Noor who was opposed to Mahathir,” he said.
Ezam reminded the opposition on how destructive Mahathir can be towards his own allies, citing PKR as an example.
He added that despite being the largest ruling party in the Dewan Rakyat, Mahathir had successfully divided PKR, using his time-tested divide and rule strategy.
“Mahathir has succeeded in turning PKR deputy president (Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali) and his followers from being reformists to his loyal bootlickers.
“Don’t forget the National Malay Dignity Congress, supported by Mahathir. Instead of championing Malay issues, they only produced Malay leaders with no honour; leaders engulfed in sex scandals, missing helicopters and so on.
“But of course, these are the types of people Mahathir loves to have. The types that will serve a dictator’s personal interest,” said Ezam.
He then urged Pakatan Harapan leaders to fix their mistakes soon before the situation in Malaysia becomes worse.
“People are sick and tired of Mahathir’s ways. Pakatan should force him out of office. Take the recent by-election losses as a warning sign and do something about it,” said Ezam.
