Education Ministry launches immediate reforms to boost student safety nationwide, Parliament told

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) is implementing immediate reforms across all 10,243 schools in Malaysia to strengthen student safety and well-being.

According to national daily Harian Metro, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative focuses on five key areas: 

1. Physical and mental health
2. Reproductive and social health education to combat sexual violence and substance abuse
3. Child protection policies
4. Teacher welfare
5. Student voices

“All State and District Education offices have been mobilised for practical and efficient implementation,” she told Parliament during Question Time today.

The MOE will review progress every 15 days, with senior officials meeting educators and students to gather feedback and ensure measures are effective.

The announcement comes in response to questions about the ministry’s actions following recent tragic incidents, including a student being allegedly gang-raped in class, highlighting the need for stronger school safety, teacher oversight, effective complaint mechanisms, and victim support.
