PONTIAN: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has one message for Tanjung Piai voters; please remember he is now Pakatan Harapan chairman, not leader of Barisan Nasional (BN).
While acknowledging the fact that some voters still think that he was Umno president, Mahathir claimed that several quarters were making use of the confusion to benefit BN.
“One such lie is a picture of me as the prime minister clad in blue attire and that I am still Umno president and BN chairman.
“Please remember that I am no more Umno president and BN chairman. I am the prime minister of the PH government,” he said in his speech at a breakfast event with non-governmental organisations in Pekan Nanas.
Earlier, there were claims that some voters in Tanjung Piai, especially from the outskirts, thought that Mahathir was still leading Umno-BN, and the latter was campaigning there on their behalf.
Worried by the matter, Mahathir had to be present in Pontian to clarify that misperception and to also urge them to throw their support behind PH candidate Karmaine Sardini.
Polling for the by-election takes place this Saturday.
