Dr M: Sex video scandal requires tough political solution

PUCHONG: The recent viral sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is a political matter that requires a political solution.

“This is not a question of morality. It is a political problem that requires a political solution,” said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a blog post today.

He added that the sex video was deliberately made viral in order end the successful careers of certain politicians.

“And they are attempting to force my hand into this and as I am the man with the authority,” said Mahathir.

Last month, Azmin was implicated in the sex video scandal after the other party featured in clip, former PKR Santubong youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz fingered the former as the other individual in the video.

However, Azmin had dismissed the accusation saying it was a sinister plot to end his political career.

Although PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had supported Azmin in the beginning, the former said last week that the latter should resign if he was the one in the video.

Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador said that the video leak was masterminded by a leader of a political party. However, the police chief did not name the person.

On related matter, Mahathir said that he would never allow himself to be used as a tool to perpetuate gutter politics.

“I will not allow myself to be used, especially by schemers who have ill intent and uses gutter politics.

He also reasoned his stand based on Islamic faith, that prohibits Muslims from spying to look for the bad traits of individuals.

“And what was done here is far worse than spying,” said Mahathir.
