RANAU, May 22 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will implement the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival and Gawai Day 2026 from May 27 to June 4.
Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the scheme involves a total of 12 types of goods for Sabah and Sarawak as well as 11 types of goods for the Federal Territory of Labuan.
“The implementation of the nine-day scheme takes into account the interests of consumers and traders to ensure that essential goods can be obtained at reasonable prices without burdening the business community,” he told reporters after inspecting the RAHMAH Madani Sales Programme (PJRM) in Kundasang, near here today.
Armizan said for the 2026 Kaamatan Festival SHMMP in Sabah, a total of 12 types of goods are listed compared to 10 types last year with the addition of imported ginger and potatoes from China.
“The items involved are live pigs, pork (meat and fat), pork (belly), imported buffalo meat from India, chicken wings, curly dried chillies, small shallots from India, garlic from China, large yellow onions, large shallots, imported aged ginger and potatoes from China.
“For Labuan, 11 types of items are listed, namely pork (meat and fat), pork (belly), imported buffalo meat from India, chicken wings, curly dried chillies, small shallots from India, garlic from China, large yellow onions, large shallots, imported aged ginger and potatoes from China,” he said.
He said a comparison of the implementation of the Kaamatan Festival SHMMP for the years 2025 and 2026 showed a more stable price trend in Sabah and Labuan when six items recorded a price decrease, while several other items remained at their current prices.
He said for the 2026 Gawai Day SHMMP in Sarawak, 12 types of items were listed compared to 11 last year’s type with the addition of buffalo meat imported from India.
“Among the items involved are live pigs, pork (meat and fat), pork (belly), live old chicken, chicken wings, imported round cabbage, garlic from China, dried curly chili, coconut seeds, grated coconut and coconut milk,” he added.
Armizan said the SHMMP is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 [Act 723] and allows for the setting of maximum prices for the items involved.
“KPDN will place enforcement officers in strategic locations such as public markets, farmers’ markets, Tamu markets and shopping centres to ensure compliance with the scheme,” he said.
He said traders who sell price-controlled items above the maximum price can be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned not more than three years for individuals, while companies can be fined up to RM500,000.
“For the offence of failing to put up pink price tags for controlled items, individuals can be fined up to RM10,000 and companies up to RM20,000,” he said.
