I read with amusement that Police have opened investigation papers under the sedition and multimedia laws on Steven Gan and Charles Santiago for comments they made after the Federal Court decision last Friday.
Does it mean that everytime someone makes a police report, the police will immediately open an IP and investigate those alleged to have done the so called offence. Does it mean that hundreds or people may have commented on the Federal court decision and if police reports are lodged on each of them, then IP will be open on each of them.
I mean does the police don’t have anything better to do than investigate each and every report which has been lodged even if they are so farfetched. In normal circumstances, police can use commonsense or discretional powers to determine if any reports warrants an investigation or not. If these reports are just publicity or political stunts, why then waste the police time on this. Can we give our police some break so that they can focus on their key work- Fighting crime!
