PUTRAJAYA: A report on the meeting between the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (MDTCA) and industry players to get recommendations on the impact of COVID-19 infection has been submitted to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the meeting with the industry players, held last week, was part of the ministry’s effort to gather proposals for the economic stimulus package, which would be announced by the government soon.
“When we know the (economic) reading for the fourth quarter, and confronted with COVID-19 infection, the prime minister instructed for all ministries to have engagement with the stakeholders of their respective stakeholders.
“I have met with industry players under the ministry and the outcome of the meeting was submitted to the prime minister yesterday,” he told reporters when met after the ministry’s excellent service award presentation.
He was asked on the draft of the economic stimulus package which the government is expected to announce soon.
Saifuddin said the report was part of the government’s initiative to take into account views and recommendations from industry players for the economic stimulus package to be announced by Mahathir this Feb 27 to reduce the impact on the country’s economy following the COVID-19 infection.
