PUCHONG: Health Ministry director general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah has urged the public to postpone mass gathering activities and public events to minimise the risk of contracting COVID-19.
In a statement today, Hisham also urged those who have symptoms of infection to the respiratory tract to stay away from crowded areas and avoid public programmes, including religious activities.
“Those who have such symptoms are advised to distance themselves at least 1 metre away from other individuals,” he said, referring to ‘social distancing’.
Earlier today, Islamic Affairs Minister Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad said that there was no need for Muslims to attend Friday prayers if the coronavirus outbreak persists.
The former mufti said that Muslims can replace it with Zohor prayers instead, at the comfort of their own homes.
On related matter, Hisham also advised Malaysians to avoid travelling to nations plagued by COVID-19.
“Those who suffer from such symptoms, please do not travel abroad during school holidays,” he said.
As of yesterday, Malaysia has recorded a total of 149 COVID-19 cases, with 26 recoveries.
