IPOH: Perak is seeking two thermal scanners in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus outbreak in China.
State Health, Consumer Affairs, Community, National Integration and Human Resource Committee chairman A. Sivanesan said the scanners were necessary as the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) here and the Pengkalan Hulu entry point at the Thai border did not have them.
He said an application for the two thermal scanners was forwarded to the State Security Council on Jan 24.
“For now temperature screening at the two entry points for incoming travellers is done manually,” he told a press conference after checking on screening of inbound travellers at LTSAS today.
He also stated that from Jan 1 to Jan 28, LTSAS recorded 3,585 foreign tourist arrivals and that only two of them were Chinese passport holders.
Malaysia has recorded eight positive cases since the outbreak spread out of China but Perak has been spared so far. All were Chinese nationals.
