Condolences pour in for Salahuddin

ALOR SETAR, July 23 — Condolences have begun pouring in for Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who died tonight.

Among them is his fellow Parliamentarian from Johor, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Wee, who is Ayer Hitam member of Parliament, extended his deepest condolences to Salahuddin’s family and described his passing as a great loss particularly to the people of Johor.

“Condolences to Salahuddin’s family for his passing, may his soul be blessed. The passing of Salahuddin, who was the Pulai MP, is a great loss to the people, especially in Johor,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Salahuddin’s daughter Fatihah Salahuddin announced the sad news in a posting in her Facebook account.

Her posting read: “With sadness, it is hereby informed that our head of family has passed away at 9.23pm, 23 July 2023”.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he was deeply affected and saddened by the death of his colleague.

“May Allah forgive all his sins, and place him among the pious. I also pray that his family remains strong with this difficult test.”

Fahmi said Salahuddin’s contributions were huge, having introduced the Payung Rahmah, Menu Rahmah, and Jualan Rahmah initiatives to reduce the people’s burdens.

“In politics, I will always remember our beautiful and painful moments and our ups and downs especially in the Pakatan Harapan leadership council.

“You will be missed, dear friend,” he tweeted tonight.

Selangor caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also expressed his sadness over Salahuddin’s passing, describing the late politician as someone who was very hardworking for the people.

“Holding the portfolio on cost of living, he was always concerned and held discussions with me to help the people of Selangor.”

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said there were no words to describe his sadness over the passing of a good friend and comrade.

“His stature and service sow seeds of hope for the future of this country. Condolences for his family, may you be patient through this ordeal,” he said in a short tweet.

Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara confirmed Salahuddin’s passing through a Facebook post tonight.

“Condolences to the family of Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, whom we love.

“May all his sins be forgiven. (He) had served the people until his last breath. May he be placed among the righteous.”
