LONDON, June 29 — British American Tobacco announced sweeping global job cuts on Monday, saying it will eliminate 5,500 positions and outsource a further 3,500 roles as part of a wide cost-cutting overhaul.

The maker of Lucky Strike and Dunhill cigarettes said the restructuring is aimed at saving £600 million (RM3.62 billion) annually by 2028.

The plan will affect about 20 per cent of BAT’s global workforce of 47,000 employees, according to a company statement.
