KUALA LUMPUR: A bill to compel all federal lawmakers to make their asset declaration is expected to be tabled today at 5 pm for first reading at the Dewan Rakyat.
It is expected to be tabled this evening by Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong.
The bill, the first in the Dewan Rakyat Order Paper, states that all members of the Dewan Rakyat are required to declare their assets, along with spouse and trustee in a statutory declaration.
All the MPs are required to submit the statutory declaration within three months, which means the due date would be Oct 1.
A copy of the declaration will also be submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner.
Those who have submitted their declaration will have their names and details from declared displayed on MACC’s website for a period of three months.
As of now only 124 out of 222 MPs have made their declarations. Aside from Cabinet members, their secretaries too have declared their assets.
