Azmin: I’m loyal to PKR, not joining other parties

KUALA LUMPUR: I am a PKR man through and through and will not abandon the cause, declared PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Speaking to reporters today, he also dismissed claims by his predecessor Syed Hussin Ali that he was planning to leave PKR to join another political outfit.

“I was elected deputy president with a huge mandate by PKR members. Not only me but also my team.

“We secured more than two thirds of the votes for the central leadership posts in the last party elections. So, what is there for me to leave?” he asked.

In an interview with Malaysiakini, Hussin claimed that Azmin and his loyalists had toyed with the idea of leaving PKR to join either Bersatu, Gerakan or even form a new party altogether.

The former PKR leader alleged that the idea came about after Azmin had a rift with party president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the gay sex video, purportedly involving the Economic Affairs Minister.

Since then, Azmin and his loyalists had not attended the party’s political bureau meetings or its leadership meetings.

Previously, Gerakan president Dominic Lau had also confirmed that he had received some overtures from those aligned to Azmin to join the party.

Touching on the matter, Azmin said the only way he could be out from PKR was if his rivals in the party orchestrated his removal.

“If someone who is jealous of me plans to kick me out, it’s entirely up to them.

“As for me, I’m committed to the cause. I will help build the party and stand firm with the leadership and our members,” he said.

On Syed Hussin’s allegations, Azmin brushed the matter aside, saying everyone is entitled to their opinion.

“That is his views. Syed Hussin has been in politics for decades. Maybe he is just jealous that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is successful and people love him. So, it’s normal,” he said.
