Azmin Ali: I DPM by June?

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali is in the dark over claims that he would be succeeding Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the deputy prime minister in two months time during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

“I don’t know (about this),” he told reporters when asked regarding the claim.

Azmin instead stressed that the government should focus on fulfilling promises instead of speculating over positions.

“There are so many things that need to be done and we were given the mandate by the rakyat to deliver, and improve the delivery system.

“We have been on the ground engaging and consulting stakeholders and the rakyat. InsyaAllah (God willing) we will do our best to honour our promises to the rakyat. That should be the focus.

“This matter (the claims) should not arise at all,” he said.

According to the agreement Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is supposed to hand over his position to Anwar Ibrahim (Port Dickson-PKR) in two years time.

The above claim involving Azmin may turn out to be true if Dr Mahathir hands over his post to his son, Dato Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who is Kedah Menteri Besar and Jerlun MP.
