JOHOR BAHRU, June 27 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today wished all PH candidates contesting the 16th Johor state election a successful campaign.

In a Facebook post, Anwar urged the candidates to engage with the people, not merely to seek votes, but to carry out the trust placed in them wholeheartedly.

The prime minister also stressed the importance of working hard, reaching out to people from all walks of life, and proving that civil politics will always prevail over politics of hatred.

“Insya-Allah, if we are sincere in championing the welfare of the people of Johor, they will make the right choice for the future of their beloved state,” he said.

Anwar, who is also PKR president, also quoted verse 159 of Surah Ali ‘Imran, which calls on Muslims to place their trust in Allah after making every effort.

Nomination for the 16th Johor state election concluded today, with 172 candidates confirmed to contest the 56 seats.

PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) are fielding 56 candidates each, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 33, Parti Bersama Malaysia with 15, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) with four, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) with one candidate each, while six candidates are contesting as Independents.

Polling will be held on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
