KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the assault on Dang Wangi Police Chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, calling on authorities to swiftly investigate those responsible as tensions mount ahead of the Kampung Sungai Baru eviction scheduled for Thursday.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar reaffirmed the government’s respect for peaceful assembly and free expression, noting that these rights “must be exercised responsibly” and in accordance with law and proper etiquette.
He described the attack on a public official as “heinous” and unacceptable.
The prime minister demanded that the masterminds be identified and charged without delay.
“This incident of attacking and injuring a public official — the Dang Wangi District Police Chief — by irresponsible parties is a heinous act and must be condemned,” Anwar said.
He further urged the public to refrain from violence, incitement, hatred, and spreading misinformation, which he warned could undermine public order.
loper has reportedly refused to delay the eviction despite the pending appeal.
ACP Sulizmie was injured when an object, believed to be a rock, was thrown during an enforcement operation in Kampung Sungai Baru.
The operation involved cutting electricity supply and demolishing several homes, amidst resistance from some residents.
Photographs of the chief’s head injury quickly went viral, drawing widespread public concern.
