KOTA KINABALU, May 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Sabah’s interim special grant will be raised from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion next year.

Anwar said the increase is a temporary measure while discussions continue on the state’s constitutional claim to 40 per cent of federal revenue collected in Sabah, according to The Star.

“I also do not want to be known as a leader that breaks his promise to the people,” he was quoted as saying at the state-level Kaamatan festival.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Madani government is committed to honouring the entitlement, adding there was no dispute over the policy.

“No argument, that is a policy that must be implemented, period,” he told English daily.

Anwar explained that the challenge now lay in determining the mechanism for implementation.

At the event today, Anwar was accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Huguan Siou, state ministers and local representatives. The group later joined in the traditional paddy harvesting, a symbolic highlight of Kaamatan.
