Anifah Aman’s Kimanis win null and void

KOTA KINABALU: Constituents of the Kimanis parliament seat would likely have another chance of choosing their representative after the Kota Kinabalu Elections Court declared incumbent Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s win null and void.
Election Commission chairman Azizan Azhar Harun confirmed that he has been informed of the court ruling.
“The court announced that the win was null and void. The court set aside the result, and ordered for a by-election,” he said.
During GE14, Anifah retained his seat with 11,942 votes on BN ticket to Warisan candidate Karim Bujang who gained 11786 votes. The third candidate Jaafar Ismail of Harapan Rakyat merely obtained 1300 votes.
The slim majority of 156 votes led Karim to file an election petition.
Anifah who quit BN post-GE14 confirmed that he would appeal the decision.
It would be the second by-election in Sabah and the fourth by-election involving a parliament seat in Malaysia since the 14th general election.
