GEORGE TOWN, Aug 29 — The state Opposition front will also be given allocations respectively as per the state administration’s existing policy, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.
He said the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) unity government will continue with the same policy in terms of allocations for state assemblymen under the state government and also for those in the Opposition.
“The allocation policy will continue for the backbenchers and Opposition but the sums will not be equal,” he said.
However, the newly sworn-in PH-BN state assemblymen will only receive the balance of the allocations left for the rest of this year.
Chow said the previous assemblymen have been instructed to ensure there is a balance of the allocations for after the state elections.
“As for the Opposition, if there is any balance in their allocation, it will continue to be allocated to them,” he said.
When asked for the amount of allocations, Chow said he did not have it on hand but specified that the allocations are different between backbenchers and the Opposition.
It is learnt that each assemblyman is allocated RM500,000 annually, inclusive of funds for infrastructure works, to serve their respective constituencies.
According to second-term opposition assemblyman, Yusni Mat Piah, the opposition assemblymen were only allocated RM60,000 per year for infrastructure works.
“The funds are only channelled through the district office for infrastructure works in our constituency,” the Penaga assemblyman said.
