PUCHONG: Attorney General’s Chamber (AGC) today announced that it would not prosecute anyone over allegations that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had attempted to sexually assault his former research officer, Muhammad Yusoff Rawther.
In a statement today, Solicitor General Datuk Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek said the decision was made after carefully evaluating all the evidences, based on police investigations.
“We found contradictions of material facts which could not support the prosecution of any person under Section 354 Penal Code or any other section under the code.
“We also found there is insufficient evidence to prosecute on the reports lodged based on the evidence available in the investigation papers,” she said.
Engku Nor Faizah also said that AG Tan Sri Tommy Thomas recused himself from the decision making process as the latter was closely associated with Anwar back in the 90s.
Last month, Yusoff signed a statutory declaration, claiming that Anwar had attempted to sexually assault him in the politician’s home in Segambut.
Yusoff also underwent a polygraph test in Bukit Aman to prove his claims. Anwar, on the other hand, refused to take participate in the polygraph test.
Engku Nor Faizah said that the AG Chambers made the decision after considering several factors.
She added that even the police had recommended for the case to be closed due to insufficient evidence.
“However, consistent with the standard practice, investigations may be reopened if and when new evidence become available,” said Engku Nor Faizah.
On related matter, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched another tirade against the AGC for refusing to prosecute top Pakatan Harapan leaders for alleged wrongdoings.
“The AGC refused to prosecute those involved in gay sex at the Sandakan Hotel.
“The AGC also dropped charges against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng over undersea tunnel project in Penang.
“It looks like Yusoff’s polygraph test was for nothing. So now, did Yusoff and Haziq make false SD and police reports? That is criminal too!” he said.
