SIBU: A fire early today left homeless 222 people of 22-door longhouse in Sekuau Settlement Scheme, Km45 of Jalan Oya-Sibu here.
Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department chief Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad said no one was injured in the fire, which was believed to have started at about 2 am and engulfed the longhouse, Dingon Megong.
“The fire is believed to have started from the kitchen area of one of the longhouse units,” he told Bernama.
The department was notified of the fire at 3.26 am and rushed fire-fighters from the Sungai Merah and Sibu Sentral stations to the scene, he said, adding that the fire was put out at 6.45 am.
